Steve Martin was so boring at his recent 92nd Street Y performance that audience members were offered a full refund.
Martin was interviewed about art in an interview with Art critic Deborah Solomon that was so boring that 900 people watch in disbelief. The biggest complaint? He just talked about his new book An Object Of Beauty without offering any of his trademark humor, but keep in mind, the book’s about art.
The cost of admission, $50, was offered back to every single person in attendance by the way of a $50 gift card to the famed theater.
According to the Y Executive Director Sol Adler’s email:
“We acknowledge that last night’s event with Steve Martin did not meet the standard of excellence that you have come to expect from 92nd St. Y.”
“We planned for a more comprehensive discussion and we, too, were disappointed with the evening. We will be mailing you a $50 certificate for each ticket you purchased to last night’s event. The gift certificate can be used toward future 92Y events, pending availability.”
Martin was none to happy with hearing about the refund offer:
“It seemed to me that a consultation was at least in order,” he said. “As for the Y’s standard of excellence, it can’t be that high because this is the second time I’ve appeared there.”
Come on Steve, you could have been the bigger man.
