Sarah Jessica Parker Replaces Demi Moore in Lovelace

Demi Moore recently got in the news a few months after her much publicized separation from Ashton Kutcher. Moore was apparently so affected by all the negative things in her life that she was recently admitted to a rehab center due to exhaustion. This meant, of course, that she had to bow out of the project she’s supposed to participate in, the Linda Lovelace biopic Lovelace. Read the rest of this entry »

Celebrific Screen Scene — May 28, 2010

Movie-wise, there's possibly something for everyone this week, with a couple of big flicks, at least in hype if not in quality. IMDB lists four new releases, and you can get more details from their profile pages, which I've linked to from each movie's title.

New Releases

  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley. Directed by Mike Newell. This one looks very much like the recent Mummy flicks with Brendan Fraser, at least in terms of the CGI. But it does look entertaining, despite being based on a video game. Apparently Gyllenhaal put in quite the effort to improving his physique.
  • Sex and the City 2: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon. Directed by Michael Patrick King. I was enough of a fan of the TV series to watch when I could, but I missed the first movie. Unfortunately, I've heard nothing good so far about SatC 2; only that there's a lot of "bore" and "excess". Still, die-hard fans will probably go, for completion.
  • Survival of the Dead: Alan Van Sprang, Kenneth Welsh, Kathleen Munroe. Directed by George A. Romero. Romero's back with yet another 'Dead' zombie flick, but again in his newer style, which fans of his original material (before Land of the Dead) apparently tend to stay away from.
  • Micmacs [limited; French]: Danny Boon, Andre Dussollier, Nicolas Marie. Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Jeunet is a multi-award-winning director, as well as a writer, producer and actor. Notable is 1991's Delicatessen dark, futuristic comedy, balanced against a genre flick like 1997's Alien: Resurrection. But beyond the plot as listed in IMDB, I know nothing about Micmacs.

Data from IMDB's Now Playing page.

Also Playing

Still in theaters: Shrek Forever After, Iron Man 2, Robin Hood, Letters to Juliet, Just Wright, MacGruber and others, mostly released last week.

Upcoming Movies/ Roles

  • Logan's Run, slated for a 2012 release might have a new director, Carl Rinsch. The movie is being produced by Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman, and is based, I assume, on both the 1976 movie (with Michael York, Farrah Fawcett, Peter Ustinov) and the short-lived 1977 TV series (Gregory Harrison, who is Paul Norris on One Tree Hill), not to mention the original novel from 1967. [Heat Vision]
  • Emma Roberts will join 'Scream 4'. I must have lost track; I thought they were at #5. But the much of the original cast is in it: Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Neve Campbell. [Hollywood Insider]
  • Brendan Fraser will likely not be starring in the sequel for Journey to the Center of the Earth. Directing duties might fall to Brad Peyton. [Deadline]
  • The next Spiderman script has five contenders for the lead role: Jamie Bell, Alden Ehrenreich, Andrew Garfield, Frank Dillane, Josh Hutcherson. [Perez Hilton]
  • Nina Dobrev of the show Vampire Diaries will join Kellan Lutz and Samuel L. Jackson in the action movie Deathgames. [Heat Vision]
  • James McAvoy will play the younger version of Professor X (previously played by Patrick Stewart) in the next installment of the X-Men movies, X-Men: First Class, which takes place before the trilogy. [Hollywood, Heat Vision]

Screen Scene Tidbits

  • Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are two of the best actors in Hollywood, and on my top five faves. But does that mean they're qualified to play Rat Pack pals Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra in an upcoming biopic? Martin Scorcese thinks so, and that means it's pretty likely to happen. [The Playlist]
  • The Harry Potter film series is coming to an end. Can you believe it's been about 10 years since the first one?! Apparently a few of the cast members, including Daniel Radcliffe, are a bit emotional as they're wrapping up the last movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I (2010; Part II will be released in 2011). [People]
  • Human Centipede is said to be one of the most revolting films ever made -- so much so that some audience members were dry heaving in their seats during a viewing; the rest made for the door. But some wag got the clever idea to turn the opportunity into a Web-based video game -- which doesn't seem as offensive. If you don't already know why Human Centipede the movie is so offensive, trust me, you never want to know. Even the description is revolting. Don't even look it up. If you're a little curious, play the Human Centipede Web game, which is just a clone of the original Centiped video game. Note: this game is NOT for the kiddies.

Enjoy the movies!

SJP, Museum Guide

If I were to ask you to name five movie/TV characters that best represent fashion, I’m pretty sure Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw would be in your list. The people at the Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art had the same gal in mind when they organized their upcoming spring exhibit.

Entitled “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity,” the exhibit will “reveal how the American woman initiated style revolutions that mirrored her social, political, and sexual emancipation.”

They enlisted the help of Sarah Jessica Parker by getting her to record the audio guide to accompany the exhibit. “Because of Sex and the City, she is so much associated with New York and with America, and with using fashion as a way to shape identity,” curator Andrew Bolton said.

The exhibit will run from May 5 to August 15, 2010.

Would SJP’s tour guide voice entice you to attend the exhibit?

SATC 2’s New Trailer

Finally, the plot thickens! A few months ago, I was complaining that Sex And The City’s sequel seemed boring with no juicy plots to keep us fans in suspense.

I guess I spoke to soon. It turns out the producers were keeping the juicy parts under wraps until about a month before the movie hits theaters. Check out the newest trailer of SATC2.

The girls may be getting older, but that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing exciting happening in their lives. The girls head to Saudi Arabia for much-needed R&R away from New York City, so it gives the SATC wardrobe an exotic twist.

I was never a fan of Big’s character, so I’m actually rooting for Aidan. I still don’t understand how Carrie was able to put up with all of Big’s crap throughout the years. Aiden was her perfect match from the start. We’ll see if Carrie gives in to temptation in the land of royalty.

Miranda and Charlotte are feeling the toll of motherhood, so I wonder how they’ll make it work without losing their mojo, and not to mention, their patience.

Samantha is the only one who seems to keep it together. Except for her aging issues, her sex life is still at its peak.

Mark you calendars, girls! May 27 is the date.

Mommy In The City

Sarah Jessica Parker Strolls Through NYC With Tabitha In Tow!

I’m so caught up with her Sex In The City character that I forget it’s just a screen role. Baby backpack with baby in tow? That’s so Miranda!

Sans her Carrie Bradshaw wardrobe, Sarah Jessica Parker walked her son James Wilkie Broderick to school in New York City, after which she went on a stroll with one of her twin daughters, Tabitha Hodge, on Monday. She’s so cute!

I wonder if daddy Matthew Broderick was in charge of the other twin, Marion Loretta Elwell. I’d love to see him with the matching baby backpack.

I know we’re all used to seeing her garbed in designer threads for her SATC role, but in real life, SJP is a working mom. The 44-year-old admitted that it is overwhelming to have twins.

“I think women tend to put more pressure on themselves to do everything exceptionally well, which is an impossibility… I muddle through the best that I can,” she said.

SJP Can’t Get Enough of Fashion

Rumors began circulating a few days ago that Sarah Jessica Parker has been tapped by designer label Halston for a creative role in their Halston Heritage Collection.

The rumor is now confirmed. According to Papermag, SJP “will actually be a member of the company’s board and will receive equity in the company.”

If you noticed, the white dress SJP was wearing in the trailer of Sex and The City 2 is from Halston Heritage, a brand extension with retail prices ranging from $55 to $595.

Critics are already comparing this fashion move to Lindsay’s futile career move—last year she was hired as artistic adviser to Emanuel Ungaro, much to the dismay of the fashion world. SJP fans don’t need to worry; fashion insiders have already begun defending the SATC star.

“There’s a big difference from this than Lindsay Lohan,” says Suze Yalof Schwartz, Glamour’s executive fashion editor-at-large. “Lindsay’s name isn’t synonymous with fashion, whereas when you think about Sarah Jessica Parker, you think about the clothes.”

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Sex and the City character, Carrie Bradshaw has done it again. She was recently sighted wearing a necklace worth $198,200! The actress wore this necklace during her photo shoot for the latest issue of US Weekly, and does it look good. But $200,000? That’s more than an average house is worth these days!
