Remember “Dear John” by Taylor Swift? The aftermath of her relationship with well known playboy John Mayer did not leave her glowing with love. Contrarily, the “little girl” sniped back with a vengeance.
They say that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, but I rather than fury, but I think that I sense a deeper, stronger emotion than fury in the words Taylor Swift penned for her ex-lover.
In case you need to refresh your memory:
Dear John, I see it all now it was wrong
Don’t you think nineteen’s too young
To be played by your dark, twisted games
When I loved you so, I should’ve known.
I am sure that many smirked at how John Mayer seemed to get a dose of his own medicine. You might have even lauded Taylor Swift for having the balls to pour her guts out to the world.
John certainly begs to disagree. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the musician says that all he felt was humiliation.
Well, my dear, what can you expect? It’s not exactly like your track record will get you anywhere else!
His justification: “It made me feel terrible, because I didn’t deserve it. I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.”
We don’t know the real story behind that, but Taylor Swift might have a thing or two to say about “lousy things”, not to mention other women that John Mayer has been involved with.
Whether or not the song is the product of cheap song writing, let’s leave that to the pros.
Oh, and in case you do not remember the song, here is a video complete with the words. You decide.
