From celebrity Twitter posts to media coverage, people have expressed their grief and shock over the iconoclast’s tragic passing. The 40-year-old was found dead yesterday at his home in London. The police have not released an official report on the cause of death, but his press representatives at KCD Worldwide said it appeared to be a suicide, just a week after his mother passed away. An official statement from his website reads:

ON BEHALF OF LEE MCQUEEN’S FAMILY, ALEXANDER MCQUEEN TODAY ANNOUNCES THE TRAGIC NEWS THAT LEE MCQUEEN, THE FOUNDER AND DESIGNER OF THE ALEXANDER MCQUEEN BRAND HAS BEEN FOUND DEAD AT HIS HOME. AT THIS STAGE IT IS INAPPROPRIATE TO COMMENT ON THIS TRAGIC NEWS BEYOND SAYING THAT WE ARE DEVASTATED AND ARE SHARING A SENSE OF SHOCK AND GRIEF WITH LEE’S FAMILY.
