Shelley Malil, best known for his role in Steve Carell’s hit flick The 40-Year-Old Virgin has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after being found guilty of attempting to kill his ex-girlfriend.
Speaking to the court, Malil said:
“I want to do whatever I need to do to make sure I make right from the wrong that I did.”
It took a jury less than four hours in September to find Malil guilty of the crime in which he stabbed Kendra Beebe.
Malil claims he was disoriented after finding another male at his then ex-girlfriends home, he says he eventually started stabbing at a figure he believed was attempting to attack him. The jury didn’t buy his story.
While acquitted of residential burglary, he was found guilty of attempted murder for repeatedly stabbing Beebe more than 20 times with a kitchen knife.
Thankfully Beebe survived, however she suffered numerous cuts to her neck, back and arms and a punctured lung.
Malil will be eligible for parole in 12 years, however he could be out in nine years with a combination of good behavior and time already served.
