The “Digital Death” campaign which singer Alicia Keys setup to raise $1 million for World AIDS Day has reached it’s $1 million mark. As part of the campaign various celebrities appeared in “dead” poses and abandoned their social media accounts, promising to stay offline until $1 million was raised.
While the plan was to have followers and fans on Twitter and Facebook help raise the money, only $500,000 was needed from the public after pharmaceutical billionaire Stewart Rahr stepped up and donated $500,000 of his own money.
After raising the $1 million Alicia Keys took to the net to thank everyone who helped the campaign reach its goal:=
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all of the fans, friends and artists who stood together for this cause and saved real lives,” said Keys. “I am humbled by the outpour of support from everyone.”
Kim Kardashian, another participated in the event and Tweeted today:
“I am back from the dead! Thank you all so much for your donations and contributions! I have missed u all so much!!!” adding “We raised $1mil to help KCA fight AIDS. Thank you so much and never stop buying life!”
Good for you Keys and celebrity friends!
