Remembering Heath Ledger

Deauville Festival of American Cinema

Yesterday would’ve been his 31st birthday. It’s been over two years since Heath’s tragic death. I still remember the day when they found his lifeless body in his Lower Manhattan apartment. The world mourned, not because he was just another handsome young actor who passed away tragically, but because he was a genuinely talented Hollywood actor.

He graduated from heartthrob teen roles (10 Things I Hate About You, A Knight’s Tale) and tackled more challenging characters (Brokeback Mountain, The Dark Knight), making him one of Hollywood’s most notable celebrities. When the world saw how he could go from portraying the usual knight in shining armor to disturbed schizophrenic villain, we all knew that Heath Ledger was no ordinary actor.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus finally came out in DVD last month, and the Blue-ray version is coming soon. The movie shows Heath’s final screen performance and behind-the-scenes footage. Heath passed away before he could finish the movie, so actors Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, and Jude Law stepped up to play his part in various sequences taking place within Parnassus’ mind.

Heath Ledger fans may order the DVD here.

A toast to the late Heath Ledger!

Family bestows estate to Matilda

heath ledger

We give three snaps in Z formation to the family of Heath Ledger, who voluntarily gifted Matilda with Heath Ledger’s estate. The actor wasn’t able to update his will before his death to accidental overdose — but since SOME people actually have a conscience, Heath’s parents and ex wife Michelle waived any claims so Matilda would have full share of her father’s assets.

Unfortunately, the insurance company lawyers aren’t as humane… They’re trying to rule the death a suicide to avoid claims. Someone should slam a pencil through THEIR hands.

Actors donate checks to Matilda

heath and matilda

This news warms our heart. Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell donated their paychecks to Heath Ledger’s little girl, Matilda, who had not been included in his will. He had left an old one that had not been updated before his sudden death from prescription drugs.

The actors had played versions of his character Tim in fantasy epic The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus. Worried about her future, they instructed the producers to give their paychecks to her.

Yes, Hollywood still has good people left!!!

One last laugh

heath ledger as joker

Heath Ledger’s sudden death cut short a brilliant and promising career. Dark Knight was his last movie, and the production company fittingly paid tribute to him in the credits.

There was some speculation that Heath had gotten so “emotionally caught up” in his character as a Joker that it worsened his existing depression and anxiety. He had trouble sleeping and was taking a lot of pills. He died of accidental overdose.

Lindsay Lohan poses nude

lindsay-nude.jpg

Lindsay Lohan posed nude for New York Magazine’s spring fashion issue.

The photo was artfully done, with Lindsay styled to look like Marilyn Monroe in her 1962 shoot with Bert Stern at Hotel Bel Air.

Lindsay admits to doing 250 crunches the night before the shoot — not that she needs it — but aside from that anxiety attack, was “completely comfortable” with the camera.

Monroe’s accidental overdose (eerily similar to Heath Ledger’s) prompted Lindsay to say, ”
“They are both prime examples of what this industry can do to someone.” But she’s firm about escaping that fate, and her rehab experience was a big wake up call. “I’m not them. But I sure as hell wouldn’t let it happen to me.”

Mourners honor Heath Ledger with ocean plunge

In a poignant ceremony  Michelle Williams and other mourners bid a final farewell to Heath Ledger by diving into the ocean after the cremation service. “It’s what Heath would’ve wanted.”

Many of them laughed and splashed in the water, but the mood shifted considerably as the sun descended. The crowd headed to the shore, standing in line with linked arms, saying goodbye to one of the most promising — and beloved — actors in Hollywood.

Observing Williams, one mourner said: “The sun goes down on our love, but it will never go down on Heathy.”

Heath Ledger’s death caused by illegal prescriptions?

heath.jpg

Heath Ledger’s autopsy results revealed a dangerous mix of prescription drugs: Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Diazepam, Temazepam, Alprazolam, and Doxylamine. All of them were prescribed by doctors. Some were pain killers, others were used to treat insomnia and anxiety.

Heath took them without knowing they could kill him when used in combination. Experts believe that they slowed down his respiratory system, so he started breathing more and more slowly until he stopped breathing completely. Now police are after the doctors who allowed him to take them without informing him of the risks.

Justin Chambers checks into mental facility

Looks like mental facilities are now the favorite Hollywood hangout.

Just as Britney Spears checked into the UCLA Medical Center, Grey’s Anatomy Justin Chambers checked out. He was suffering from a sleeping disorder — sadly, this may have been the same thing that plagued Heath Ledger.

Jake is Choked Up

jgyllenhaal.jpg

Jake Gyllenhaal has been taking Heath Ledger’s death really hard. The two became close friends while filming Brokeback Mountain. He’s even godfather to Heath’s daughter, Matilda.

Jake had to take a leave of absence from filming his new movie, Brothers. Co-stars said that he had left the set the moment he heard about the death. Though he did return to shoot another scene, he often sat on the director’s chair, blankly staring into space.

He’s taken a leave of absence from the movie and has been turning to girlfriend Reese Witherspoon for much needed emotional support.

Heath’s last film will push through

heath-and-christopher.jpg

Heath Ledger was still filming The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus when he died last week. Now, the production company is scrambling for ways to finish it — if only to pay tribute to the talent for someone everyone deeply respected and loved.

Costar Christopher Plummer confirmed reports that Ledger hadn’t been feeling well. “We all caught colds because we were shooting outside on horrible, damp nights. But Heath’s went on and I don’t think he dealt with it immediately with the antibiotics.…I think what he did have was the walking pneumonia.”

He also said Heath repeatedly complained about not being able to sleep and was taking pills just to get enough rest for the next day’s filming.

There are rumors that Johnny Depp will be asked to step into Heath’s role, but none of these have been confirmed.

Mary Kate speaks up on Heath’s death

Mary-Kate Olsen finally stepped forward after her name was drawn into Heath Ledger’s sudden and tragic death.

The two had been dating casually since late last year. Initial reports said he had been found in her apartment (not true); then police announced that she was the first person the housekeeper had called. In fact, she phoned her 3 times (a minute between each call) before calling 911.

“Heath was a friend. His death is a tragic loss. My thoughts are with his family during this very difficult time.”

Police have said they will not question Olsen in connection with the phone calls.

Police rule out illegal drugs

heath.jpg

Police have ruled out that Heath was taking a toxic mix of illegal drugs and alcohol. The rolled up $20 bill they found in his apartment tested negative for cocaine. However, he did have prescription drugs, including those to help him sleep.

Friends have said that he had been very edgy during Christmas because he missed his daughter, but that he wasn’t overly depressed.

It will take about 10 day before autopsy results are finalized.
