Marc Anthony & Jennifer Lopez Celebrate Ricky Martin

jennifer-lopez-ricky-martin-award-11-2-2006.jpg

Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez & unknown guest (who I like to think of as Cousin Jimmy the Snake) celebrate the man, the myth, the legend- Ricky Martin.

Everyone gathered around Ricky on Wednesday to toast the man that was named 2006 Latin Recording Academy Person of The Year, notice the award didn’t include the title ’Best Singer’.

The big party took place in New York City’s Sheraton Hotel last night.  J Lo is looking quite lovely in a little red number, while Marc Anthony is looking as ugly as usual.  Ricky, on the other hand, is looking just as jovial as he always does.  Congrats to the 2006 Latin Recording Academy Person of The Year!

Bill Clinton & Sheryl Crow Humanitarian of the Year Pictures

Former President Bill Clinton & singer Sheryl Crow were spotted (sharing a cigar?) at T.J. Martell Foundation's 31st Annual Awards gala hosted by the Marriott Marquis in New York City Tuesday night.

The former president accepted the Humanitarian of the Year Award, which should have been in the shape of a fat Cuban cigar if you ask me.  Guests for the illustrious event included Mary J. Blige, Steve Van Zandt & John Legend, however Hillary Rodham was no where to be seen.  Maybe she had a my-husband-is-a-selfish-asshole meeting to attend.

Ben Affleck Surprised by Best Actor Award

ben-afflect-best-actor-hollywoodland.jpg34-year-old Ben Affleck was just as surprised as we were at winning Best Actor award for his portrayal of TV Superman George Reeves in Hollywoodland.

Affleck left the Venice Film Festival early, trying to beat the traffic & not expecting any awards.

He states, "If I thought for a second that there were going to be awards for anybody, I would have stayed!"

Ben even goes so far to try and convince us to overlook Gigli.

"I've been in movies that earned a lot of money that... I wish I wasn't in honestly. I was a little cavalier before, but having a child makes me think about things differently.

"I have to prove myself all over again, but I don't mind that. Once I realized where things were going, I just said, 'OK, let me make sure I'm in a place where I don't have to worry about being on "Family Feud" for dough in five years and then I'll just do what I can be proud of.'"

Affleck said that he reexamined his life after his daughter with wife Jennifer Garner was born last December.

"The only thing that matters to me is my daughter being able to be proud of her old man."

I can live with that.  Just no more Gigli, dammit!

The Grammy Awards, What You Want to Know

grammy.jpg

Wow! What an enchanted evening with all our favorite musicians under one roof, with explosive performances by Madonna, Gorillaz, Coldplay, John Legend & Faith Hill. And did you see "Desperate Housewives" Teri Hatcher steal looks with that not-leaving-too-much-to-my-imagination frock?

U2 was the big winner last night, sweeping the 48th annual Grammy Awards with five wins including Album of the Year for How to Dismantle an Atom Bomb and Song of the Year, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own. It looks like U2 will be able to make it.

Mariah Carey held her own with three Grammy's; Best Female R & B Vocal Performance, Best R & B Song & Best Contemporary R & B Album.

But what left the most imprinted memory for me was not U2, Mariah, Teri Hatcher's underwear or even thinking, "Are we all sure Prince is straight?". No, I have to say that the most fascinating thing to me was Madonna's performance.

Here we have a 48 year-old woman, wife, mother and children's books author in a Wonder Womanesque blue sequined outfit singing something about how time goes by so slowly, time goes by so slowly, time goes by so slowly. Aghh! It was ages before I could get my brain away from the phrase.

So, she's doing her tightly choreographed number with many other talented dancers, it was like a 70's dance party out there. And all I could think was, what would it be like to be married to this woman? If I was her director husband, Guy Ritchie, would I be walking down the stairs be-robed with coffee and paper in hand, and suddenly Madonna would pop out behind the living room door with a red leather number, dancing in alluring formation with a troupe of Cirque du Soleil dancers? I'm just asking, maybe it's just me.

Any way you look at it, it was a night not soon forgotten. Whether it be how U2 surprised us all this year, feeling Mariah's disappointment (she was thought to sweep the Grammy's herself this year) or seeing the Teri Hatcher from your dreams, strut her stuff on the red carpet. I had a wonderful evening, as I hope you did, and I look forward to the 49th annual Grammy Awards.
