Let’s call the Joaquin Phoenix story what it really is…a Mockumentary. During an interview with The New York Times Casey Affleck revealed that I’m Still Here was nothing more than a “performance” in which Phoenix pretended to be on some weird downward spiral.
The joke started in February 2009 when Phoenix appeared on late-night with David Letterman and seemed to be completely incoherent with a newly revealed heavy dark black beard and sunglasses. During that interview Letterman said, “Joaquin, I’m sorry you couldn’t be here tonight.”
Since that time Phoenix has managed to keep his alter ego at the forefront of his career, attempting to launch a horrid rap career while battling a mental breakdown.

The much-hyped film I’m Still Here: The Lost Year Of Joaquin Phoenix has been a much hyped mockumentary from director Casey Affleck and now we have a trailer for the film which debuts on September 10th.
The movie follows Phoenix after he left the Johnny Cash role on Walk The Line and eventually ended up trying to launch a failed rap career.
The movie was picked up in June by Magnolia Pictures and if nothing else it looks like an interesting experiment in mockumentary film making.

…And he’s clean and shaven! Remember how he shocked fans when he announced that he wanted to quit acting in order to become a rapper? He grew a shaggy ‘do and a scruffy beard, and started acting so weird that people thought he was just putting up an act.
It’s been almost a year and it’s so nice to see that he’s back with a cleaner image. He was recently part of a project for TWLOHA (To Write Love on Her Arms), a suicide-prevention charity. In the video, he is joined by TWLOHA founder Jamie Tworkowski and fellow celebrities Miley Cyrus and Liv Tyler.
…to this.
Good job, Joaquin!

What’s this we hear that Joaquin Phoenix has announced that he is retiring from acting and will just focus on his music?
Has he internalized Johnny Cash a little bit too far?
