So, we haven’t heard from harmonica-playing, Blues Traveler frontman John Popper in quite a while, have we? Well, my friends, I believe we’re going to be hearing a lot more about Popper in the months to come.
Good ole John Popper was pulled over by police Thursday for speeding in Spokane, Washington. The blues musician was going about 111mph, not too terrible, unless it was like in a 30mph zone or something. Police must have suspected a little bit more was going on, as they did a search of Popper & found some marijuana. Well, what do you expect? He’s a blues musician! And it was just a personal amount of marijuana that police found.
Well, the cops then decided to take a closer look at Popper’s vehicle to see if there was any more weed to be found, alas they did not find any more. But guess what they did find? A freeking arsenal in John Popper’s car! A total of 14 weapons were found in the vehicle, including four rifles, one of which was a 50-caliber, as well as nine handguns & a switchblade knife. What the hell? John Popper- blues musician/weapons dealer? Or John Popper- blues musician/crazy old paranoid man you don’t want to get in a fight with, especially near his damn car!
According to the Washington State Patrol, Popper’s reason for having the auto-arsenal, as we shall now officially dub it, was because he didn’t want to be left behind if a natural disaster occurred. Wow, someone has been watching a little too much TV.
John was arrested as well as his in-the-wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time-friend Brian Gourgeois, who was actually driving Popper’s car at the time they were pulled over. Well, I’m thinking Mr. Popper’s going to be performing to a much bigger, incarcerated crowd pretty soon.

I suspect they’ll get him on the possession charges. Unless those weapons were “illegal” in the form of contraband, he’ll walk on the guns.
There’s nothing illegal about driving around with a trunk-load of weapons. It’s the drugs that are the problem…
(I suspect there’s a large crowd who think the guns were the problem but when you’re driving over 100mph and high on dope, you’re asking for trouble…)

The combination of the dope, the speeding the switchblade just makes the guns a gravy train for cops. Switchblades are also illegal here.
Funny how you can forgive the reckless speeding, the dope and not even mention the switchblade, but the guy has some guns in the trunk of his car and holy crap he’s gotta be al queda.
Some people do carry weapons, for whatever their reasons are. I personally have a permit to carry, even though most of the time I don’t. I do carry weapons to and from the firing range frequently. Sometimes the places I go shooting are over 100 miles a way and on those occasions I do have more than a few guns with me, ussually along for the ride are a bunch of freinds. No we are not a militia, just people who enjoy target shooting and each others company.
