James Jay Lee, the man responsible for taking hostages at the Discovery Channel headquarters in Maryland has been killed by police officers during a raid.

According to police officials, Lee had spoke with a negotiator during his stand off, however those negotiations were completely unsuccessful.

Officials say they had their tactical officers get close to Lee and once they realized he had a handgun pointed directly at one of his hostages they opened fire, killing him instantly.

Lee ran a radical website and police officials say his demands mirrored requests he had previously made on that website.
