Susan Boyle may have wowed audiences around the world with her “I Dreamed A Dream” performance on Britain’s Got Talent but now an insider told UK newspaper The Evening Standard that the performance was auto-tuned.
Boyle’s performance made her a worldwide singing sensation big enough to sing at an upcoming meeting with the Pope, while racking up nearly 50 million YouTube views.
According to the insider, just like allegations over Simon Cowell allowing X-Factor auto-tuning over the last week, the performance given by Boyle’s was tweaked before it went live.
“The exact same techniques are used on Britain’s Got Talent as on The X-Factor — it’s the same production team,” said the insider “This goes for everyone — even Susan Boyle’s audition was smoothed out in post-production to give it the best possible sound.”
Auto-Tune helps ensure that all notes are hit properly by adjusting the singers voice for perfection, it’s a technique used by many professional musicians during the recording process, so it wouldn’t really surprise me to learn that this was the same process used for Susan Boyle and various other live singing moments. With that being said, you can’t use auto-tune to make a terrible singer sound great, but rather it’s used to smooth out a singers voice, ensuring a steady sound across the singers range.

They said they always use it on X-Factor and BGT, so that means it was used for Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Paul Potts, Joe MeElderry, and everyone who auditioned on those shows.
It’s probably done on American Idol all the time too, since Cowell is also associated with that show.
Listen to Boyle’s live, acapella singing in her living room right after the audition, and on the BGT tour.
She’s pitch perfect.

Boyle has proven too many times – even in videos before she was famous – that she is ace at carrying a tune. Too many people have heard her live for this rumor to have traction.

Susan Boyle has not sounded the same singing for the Pope. This is a give-away she was autotuned. The same goes for that little girl Jackie Evancho. She did not sound the same before or after agt.People thought she was lip syncing because her mouth movements were not in align with her notes. Autotune connects the notes and corrects pitch. What they saw is little girls mouth making mistakes, yet perfect notes were still being heard. It is really sad that they sell these peoples cds after the show. They let people believe they are getting a piece of history.when on fact their getting a piece of crap.
