Melina Kanakaredes Leaving CSI: NY After 6 Seasons

Detective Stella Bonasera will be leaving the crime lab. According to a recent report, Melina Kanakaredes is leaving CSI: NY after 6 seasons on the show.

The departure was Melina’s own choice after her recent contract expired.

Both CBS and CBS TV Studios released the following joint statement:

“We hoped Melina would return to ‘CSI: NY’ for another season, but we respect her decision to move on,” while adding, “Her amazing talent and invaluable contribution to the success of the series are greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten.”

Melina also released a short statement:

“I made some amazing and lifelong friendships during my six seasons on ‘CSI: NY’ … and I will treasure them forever!”

Actress Sela Ward is believed to be Melina’s replacement and the new parnter to Det. Mac Taylor played by Gary Sinise.

Production on the new season of CSI: NY begins on July 28th.

Really glad to see Melina leaving the show. She was often the reason I didn’t catch an episode.
My only disappointment is that it took CBS six years to part company with her.
This show needs a sexy and great looking female to costar with Gary Sinise and even though Melina tried low cut tops and whatever, she couldn’t achieve sexy.
Sela Ward is lovely looking and also a much better actress. Ward and Sinise would be an excellent pairing.
Melina left when CBS wouldn’t pay her what SHE thought she was worth.
She’s the reason Providence drew such poor ratings and also the main reason [other then the Danny - Lindsay bubblegum scenarios] that CSI: NY has lagged.
If Sela Ward does replace Melina, its the best thing to happen to this show in a long time.
Gary Sinise is the star of the show, he’s still there, and the show will be even better now.

Personally I’m sad she is going why does the co star have to be some sexy piece of ass the show is not about that it is about the crime and how they go about solving the crime – you don’t expect the character (or gary sinese) or mat taylor to be wearing a shirt unbuttoned to the waist so why should the same be said of the female character?

I hate to see Melina leaving..I dont like Sela Ward.She is not a good replacement..I cant stand for a show to take people who fit well in the show off.I stopped watching CSI Lv because of them taking people off..
